Radio CorMariae's Launch covered in the Newspaper

The following article was published by the (New Bedford) Standard Times shortly before the official launch of Radio CorMariae

By Linda Andrade Rodrigues

NEW BEDFORD — After a prayer-filled journey of three years, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate of Our Lady's Chapel and their lay apostolate will launch their new Catholic radio station Friday, March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation.

The kickoff and initial broadcast of Radio CorMariae (Latin for heart of Mary) at 88.5 FM (WPMW) will take place at 6:30 p.m.

"Bishop George Coleman graciously agreed to come and preside over a prayer service at Our Lady's Chapel, which will consist of Evening Prayer and Eucharistic Benediction," said the Rev. Louis Maximilian Mary, who serves as Father Guardian at the chapel and the general manager of the studio. "Our plan is to broadcast live."

Why Catholic and Marian Radio?

by Fr. Louis Maximilian M. Smith, F. I.

The past decade has witnessed a phenomenal growth in Catholic Radio in the United States: whereas only seven Catholic radio stations were in operation just over a decade ago, that number has skyrocketed to over 185 in the present day. Adding its presence to this growing list is Radio CorMariae, 88.5 FM, WPMW Bayview-New Bedford, Massachusetts. Radio CorMariae marked its official launch on March 25, 2011, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord.

Radio CorMariae fires up their Antenna

Ave Maria!

Yesterday, 16 December 2010, was the unofficial birthday of Radio CorMariae. At around 5:30pm we jerry-rigged the newly installed antenna line, connected it up to the transmitter, and fired up the radio station for the first time. It was an incredibly joyful event as this was the culmination of over 2 years of hard work by a huge team of volunteers to get this radio station up and running – and we, the privileged few, got to enjoy the fruit of all that hard work – if only for a brief period of time.

Don’t get excited and tune in your radio to 88.5 FM yet! This was only our first test transmission and there is still a lot of technical and engineering work to be completed before we can go on the air full-time. Our official launch date is set for 25 March 2011.

Mission Statement

The mission of Radio CorMariae, operated by the Franciscans of the Immaculate, is to bring all souls to the Heart of Jesus in the “shortest, surest, most beautiful way” (St. Maximilian M. Kolbe) – through the Heart of Mary, His Mother – for the maximum glory of God. In following the example of our Seraphic Father St. Francis of Assisi, Radio CorMariae is faithful to our Holy Father, the Pope, and to the Magisterial teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
