Why Catholic and Marian Radio?

The past decade has witnessed a phenomenal growth in Catholic Radio in the United States: whereas only seven Catholic radio stations were in operation just over a decade ago, that number has skyrocketed to over 185 in the present day. Adding its presence to this growing list is Radio CorMariae, 88.5 FM, WPMW Bayview-New Bedford, Massachusetts. Radio CorMariae marked its official launch on March 25, 2011, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord.
On this date — March 25 — Catholics celebrate a historical event of capital importance for the salvation history of mankind. In his inscrutable wisdom God effected his plan of salvation for mankind only through the cooperation of a creature — the Blessed Virgin Mary. God chose this creature — and her alone — to be his Mother, yet it was only at her word that the Word “was made flesh and dwelt among us” (cf. Jn 1: 14). The Son of God became the Son of Mary because Mary said “yes” to God. This is why St. Irenaeus, an early Doctor of the Church, called Mary the “cause of our salvation.”
If we reflect on this indispensable role of the Virgin Mother in God’s plan of salvation, it will not be difficult to understand why we have dedicated this radio station to the Heart of Mary — in Latin, Cor Mariae. If Jesus comes to us only by way of Mary, then it follows that we must go to her if we want to find her Son. Jesus and Mary are inseparable. If Jesus, therefore, has chosen to become a child of Mary, we must also become her children.
Any Catholic that wishes to effectively carry out the “New Evangelization” so ardently desired by Pope Benedict XVI and his predecessor, Venerable Pope John Paul II, will dare leave no stone unturned in bringing hearts — all hearts, if possible — into contact with the tender and loving Heart of Mary, united to the Heart of her divine Son. This is why we at Radio CorMariae propose to bring Jesus and Mary to all hearts.
It is our sincere desire that, one day, we will be able to tell you about the proliferation of Catholic and Marian radio stations in the United States and around the world. Imagine what this would mean for the revitalization of our culture. Sound impossible? “All things are possible with God” (Mk 10: 27), but only if we follow his Marian plan.
