The Immaculate Conception Mediates Graces of Integrity

“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.” (John 1:5)

God is the Father of Mercy. He manifests this mercy by extending to man the promise of a Redeemer after the fall of our first parents in the Garden of Eden. This promise is made in the proto-evangelium Genesis 3:15 where Mary is foretold as the Woman whose seed, Jesus Christ, will crush Satan. Mary is dogmatically revealed in the Encyclical “Ineffabilis Deus” what she herself confirms in Lourdes, France, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Conceived without the original sin which all of the children of Eve inherit, Mary Immaculate manifests and mediates the Father’s mercy. She is made Immaculate because she is the Virgin Mother of God, the sign and manifestation of the fulfillment of God’s merciful promise in the garden to send a Redeemer. The Annunciation account in Luke contains many of these mysteries.

Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” (Luke 1: 31-35)

From this passage from St. Luke we learn that Mary found favor with God because of a prevenient grace from God, the Father of Mercy where Mary was made Immaculate in view of the redemption of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We learn that the Lord Jesus is her seed, to be “called the Son of the Most High” and “of his kingdom there will be no end.” We learn that this is completely a miraculous work of God’s mercy because Mary is a virgin confirmed by her question when she asks the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” We also learn that her seed, Jesus Christ, will be given “the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever.” This also makes manifest God’s merciful plan that a man will be appointed as his earthly father and guardian who is of the lineage of David and house of Jacob. This man is St. Joseph. Joseph received from Mary the graces to be the foster father of the Son of God and the virginal spouse of the Immaculate Conception. Mary prayed for Joseph and mediated for him the graces of integrity to be her chase spouse. Thereby St. Joseph was enabled to live up to his vocation and true call by God to be a protector of the holy family, the guardian of the Redeemer, a just man and a person of integrity faithful to his vocation as father.

Mary is the Spouse of the Holy Spirit and Co-redemptrix who mediates all graces before, during and after the Redemption of Jesus her crucified Son. Mary’s power cannot be underestimated because of her profound humility and charity in fulfilling the will of God, even to sacrificing her Son for our salvation. As the Immaculate, Mary is full of grace and Mary in turn corresponds perfectly to the Trinitarian God as the humble handmaid of the Lord willing to be the Mother of the suffering servant of Isaiah. “Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)

Immaculate Mary is the omnipotent intercessor before the throne of God. Even the simple gift of a miraculous medal, which she commanded to be struck in honor of her Immaculate Conception, has the power to convert sons of darkness to be friends of God and children of the light.

These are some of the themes which are woven through the upcoming Proclaim and Magnify Conference on Saturday, April 9th from 9 AM to 3 PM. Sponsored by Radio CorMariae (88.5 WPMW www.wpmw.org). This year’s conference is on living the faith in our troubled times as persons of integrity, becoming what we are called to be by God. Attendees will listen to the personal witness of conversion of ZACHARY KING, former Satanic priest and GENEVIEVE KINEKE, author and television host, as they illuminate “our culture of darkness” with the spiritual sight to understand the signs of our times and how we are to live as faithful persons true to our vocations as Catholics. This special event will be hosted at Bishop Stang High School, 500 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth, MA. Tickets are available by registering online at http://bpt.me/2517459 or by calling 508-996-8274.
